My Ranger with her nice FoW Armor begs to differ on that comment. FoW is a nice target to save up for.

I'm glad I did.

I've not bought a FoW armor, even though now I have 1,4M split in 2 accounts, so I could afford a set for one of my chars, but actually I prefer to spend gold in weapons and some 15k sets which in some cases are better looking.

When I started Factions, I had only 100k in storage, after having finished GWP with 6 chars and bought 1 set of 15k.
Most of my current gold comes from green farming, I made 500k in the Cantha green weekend farming the most profitable green that was Kunvie's air staff (sold 10 for 40-45k each) + some other less valuable, and then 200k selling absinthe and brews in the Halloween weekend.
The rest comes from normal playing and 55hp / 405hp /shiroken farming in Cantha, I would have more if I hadn't wasted them in other 3x15k sets, 8 superior vigors and 500k in gold weapons (I like gold weaps but I never get something usable for me, so I'm obliged to buy everything )

Anyway, hoarding gold (without the help of a big lucky drop you can sell for 100k + 100ectos) requires in my opinion to stop playing normally the game, and concentrate on whatever type of farming for a long period of time.
I preferred to play the game with 8 chars, that is dispersive but I didn't have the target of FoW armor so I enjoyed that way.

I may advise to focus on 3-4 most reliable classes for farming, like warrior, monk, necro and mesmer, rush them through the game so you can unlock the most profitable areas, and then find some good farming locations (for greens or simply gold) and exploit them, also rotating your chars for better results.

I've just been saving the coins for six months. Have 300k now from just playing PvE quests, mission, FoW teams etc. Get a few lucky drops here and there and you're good.

Buying FoW armour is crap. Its the build up that's fun.

I've spent countless hours grinding in the UW with my guildy having a great time...there's no putting a price on that.

sadly, alot of people who have FOW armor just Ebay gold (which is illegal and you might get your GW account banned permanently) and just buy the whole thing from merchant.

and ive always admired those who had the patience to farm it. you indeed need the patience of a saint, thats why i dont have a FOW set of my own.

You could do what I did. I Bought my Male Mesmer chest and boots and faked the gloves and the pants. It's tough to tell the differance, and my wallet was singing after farming shiroken and vermin for a month or so...

Very true, I'll definitely skip gloves and probably boots too when I get FoW for my female mesmer. Gloves look just the same, and FoW boots just look a bit odd I think.

The market kicked me in the gonads though. When shards dropped to 3100g a few weeks back I bought like 50 of them, thinking that that's the lowest they'll get. WRONG, they've been 2600g lately, today they even hit 2400g. I should have been buying ectos which were 6000g at the time, now they are 7500g+. The AI update shook things up quite a bit.

I don't do power trading anymore, since I'm too lazy to sell the stuff after I buy them =P.

I tried saving for a set about a year ago, got up to 600k or so before I gave up and spent the money across all my characters. I still have some of that gold leftover, and it's slowly dwindling down. If you have 1 or 2 characters that you pretty much play all the time, then FoW is a good goal to reach for. I have the terrible habit of playing all my characters as much as possible, so I don't really have time to go back and farm the gold.

Best of luck to you, and post pics once you get it.

Now this is obviously possible to get, as I have seen Monks running around with such armor on. What I want to know is... How did they do it?! I'm serious. FoW and UW drops are not that high. I've only gotten 2 Shard drops from FoW from the 7 times I've been there. Either these people have superb luck and are blessed by the gods, or they have a tactic I have not even thought of yet.

I'm not an Übermensch. If anyone can recommend ideas on how your average person can get Obsidian Armor, it would be very much appreciated.
some of the monks you se running around got their armors cheaper why some of the fow armors for monks were like 15 ectos and stuff.

anet changes that.

however those monks would not have the new aromrs that can take sigs

I used two methods to get my armor.. first i farmed ecto in underworld untill i had the 105 i needed for my monk fow armor.. then i continued to farm ecto to sell for shard money..

and when america did not have favor i would farm hydras for cash to buy shards..

finally when i had all 105 ecto and 105 shards.. i saved up 100k to finish off the rest of my purchases..

It was a hard road. but when i look back upon it i can say that it was worth it.

Keep this in mind... when i started saving for fow armor my monk had about 500k experience..

when i was done he had around 4 mill...

So it takes a ton of work and dedication if your gonna farm for it.

but some people have been known to aquire the fow armor in just a few days by selling and buying with the buy low and sell high ideal..

and yes others do ebay.. but i encourage you not to do that... because when you finally do get your armor.. knowing that you earned every cent of the money used for it makes for a much better respect of what you have.
On the quote on people using EBay and them about earning every cent... Not valid in my eyes.

Reason for this money in real world is earnt = money bought using money in real world because you earnt every cent there too by working in real life. Therefore why should people be ashamed?

The reason people should worry about is GETTING BANNED by Anet as the sole reason why you shouldn't buy gold from Ebay.

Seriously all that hard work is time... time = money... if the rules were different a smart person would go pick up an extra hour or two at work that would be like at least 1000k worth in GW gold. How much time would it be equivalent too in Guild Wars?

So in the end it makes that Ebay point invalid about it "not being earnt" because in reality it has, its just the smarter way to get the funds (less time farming and more time doing things you want to do).

Just to let the fact be known... I don't Ebay or anyway endorse the Ebay community. But this is just strictly a business/econonic viewpoint.

Well, i got 4 sets from just farming UW when bored, getting fow now would be a lot harder with the AI changes but from my experience the harder it is to get, the better it feels when you get it, when i got my first set on my mesmer it was awesome, ectos were still at 16k each then so it wasnt as common as it is now, got a lot of people stopping and commenting in towns etc. but now ecto is about 6.5k to buy its cheapened the whole process down.
